  • April 2018: JDSupra – LegalZoom Allegedly Engages In The Unauthorized Practice Of Trademark Law: According to a complaint filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California by California law firm LegalForce RAPC Worldwide, LegalZoom engages in the unauthorized practice of law when its non-attorneys instruct customers on how to register trademarks. The lawsuit names various other defendants, including the Patent and Trademark Office and several bar associations, as alleged conspirators in LegalZoom’s attempt to restrain trade.  Click here to read the full article.

  • January 2018World Trademark Review – “There’s a new sheriff in town”: LegalForce founder reveals motivation behind lawsuits against competitors:  LegalForce RAPC Worldwide, the firm behind Trademarkia, has initiated a number of lawsuits against competitor online trademark filings portals, with shareholder Raj Abhyanker telling World Trademark Review that “this is just the start”. With more litigation filings expected, he contends that the regulation he adheres to as a law firm is restricting his ability to operate on a level playing field with some competitors.   • January 2018: Law360 – IP Firm Stakes Survival On War Against Non-Atty TM Services: A California attorney has lodged his eighth complaint in just three weeks over online trademark registration services, telling Law360 on Tuesday that his litigation war over such companies’ use of non-lawyers for legal work is a “matter of survival” for his firm.   Raj Abhyanker, founder of LegalForce RAPC Worldwide PC, launched his first volley in mid-December with a $60 million antitrust suit that named competitor LegalZoom.com, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the state bars of California, Texas and Arizona as defendants.  Click here to read the full article.

  • December 2017: ABA Journal  – Nonlawyers at LegalZoom performed legal work on trademark applications, UPL suit alleges: complaint filed Tuesday in the Northern District of California alleges LegalZoom has engaged in the “unauthorized practice of law, false advertising, unfair competition and other claims with respect to preparation and filing of trademark applications” before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  The action is brought by LegalForce RAPC, a patent and trademark filing firm, and its owner Raj Abhyanker, a patent attorney in California.  Click here to read the full article.  
  • May 2017: World Trademark Review – Law Firm Behind Trademarkia to focus on quality as it eyes aggressive international expansion: LegalForce RAPC, the law firm behind the Trademarkia search engine, has revealed to World Trademark Review that it is moving into the “next phase of the company” by implementing quality initiatives, forging new law firm partnerships and conducting an international recruitment drive.  The move is an effort to bring more work in-house and diversify its global offering – and will add further competition to the legal services space. Click here to read the full article.

  • October 2013: San Francisco Business Times – LegalForce among Bay Area’s fastest-growing private companies:  The San Francisco Business Times released there annual Fast 100, a roundup of the 100 fastest growing companies in the bay.   • July 2013: Fast Company – $10M Venture Fund to help Startups build an IP portfolio:  On July 24th, 2013 LegalForce announced plans to raise $10M to build up a fund to invest in technology-driven startups. These startups will be given half a million each to build up their patent portfolio to use as a sort of insurance policy for the company.   • February 2013: TechCrunch – Trademarkia Rebrands as LegalForce To Offer Online Legal Services, Opens Retail Location for In-Person Consultations: Search engine Trademarkia, which launched at TechCrunch50 in 2009, is rebranding as LegalForce to offer a comprehensive legal services platform. The new company is also opening of LegalForce BookFlip, a brick-and-mortar retail store in downtown Palo Alto to provide retail access to licensed U.S. attorneys on a walk-in basis without appointments.  Click here to read the full article. 
  • April 2012: New York Times  – A Start-Up Rethinks the Process of Getting a Trademark: Trademarkia is an online search engine that helps small-business owners sift through the more than six million names, slogans and logos that have been trademarked in America since 1870. The Web site, which went live in September 2009, grafts a user-friendly interface onto a colossal database, built with free information provided by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It also serves as a lure, steering visitors who want to apply for their own trademarks to the law firm of Trademarkia’s co-founder, Raj Abhyanker, and offering other fee-based services such as domain registration, logo design and automated alerts that notify trademark holders when marks similar to their own are filed.   • September 2011: The White House  – White House asks Raj Abhyanker to speak on U.S. patent reform, America Invents Act: Partner Raj Abhyanker of the firm LegalForce RAPC Worldwide, a leading U.S. law firm and creator of the legal website Trademarkia.com, was requested by the Executive Office of the President Barack Obama for Technology, Office of Science & Tech Policy to speak with the government about ideas on implementing the new America Invents Act. The message from the White House was relayed by Aneesh Chopra, the CTO of the United States government, who asked LegalForce RAPC Worldwide to help “ensure we strengthen the American innovation ecosystem” by commenting on the best
    ways to implement the new patent reforms. Raj discussed new initiatives with Quentin Palfrey, Senior Advisor for Jobs & Competitiveness for the Executive Office of the President.  The White House primarily wanted to know LegalForce RAPC Worldwide’s thoughts on how the program if the bill were to pass.
  • May 2011: Bloomberg BusinessweekTrademarkia Upends Trademark Filing Process, Angers IP Lawyers: Trademarkia’s traffic is exploding, with more than 1.2 million monthly unique visitors…Trademark Insider, a publication that ranks trademark data from the USPTO, shows that Abhyanker’s law firm jumped to No. 1 on its top 100 list in 2010, from 91 in 2009.
